So what is the latest technology in drying and cooling shrimp feed? We considered all the requirements and the experience in the field and have developed a Generation 3 (G3) pelleting system that incorporates the dryer and cooler (TK-series) in one machine

This customer incorporate ZP-125B & ZP-150 ultra-fine grinder in their post-grinding system. This ultra-fine powder will increase feed cooking, thus improving feed digestibility. They also used our twin paddle mixer for better homogeneity when mixing micro-nutrients. Moreover, in 2017, they started using the IDAH Vertical Cross Counterflow Rotary (VCCR) dryer designed for uniform drying purposes. The tilting trays and the airflow design, enable each pellet to be mixed well and achieve the suitable temperature treatment throughout the dryer.

Trials in our customer site showed satisfactory results and they are already continuing to produce this small-size shrimp feed. Now, we are happy to officially introduce this pellet die to the market.

The production of high-quality shrimp (or prawn) feed is a series of complex and versatile processes. Shrimp feed pelleting is well known in Asia as the most economical way and it dominates the market. In China and India, the shrimp feed (for L. vannamei and P. monodon) market grew exponentially in these few years. In general making shrimp feed is influenced by good formulation and good processing, but the factory floorplan is also accountable for the shrimp feed quality.

Choosing the right equipment is the first step for the success of the production process. Idah PM-series pellet mill which include PM-42, PM-51, PM-53 and PM-635 has been produced since 1980. These pellet mills have become the trademark in shrimp feed pelleting ever since.

The carousel drying or cooling process was first used for cooling in the feed industry at the end of the 1970s. The devices have been manufactured by the Taiwanese system manufacturer IDAH from Suao since around 2011 and have been adapted to today's quality standards in a continuous improvement process.

The animal feed comes in many forms. Pelleted or mash feeds are popular in the market. Both products share a similar production sequence until the mixing process. pelleted feed needs to undergo pellet mill, cooler, and sifter after the mash is prepared. Mash feed is a form of a complete feed that is finely ground and mixed so that animals or birds cannot easily separate the essential nutrients. The purpose of feeding mash diet is to provide a well-balanced diet, give greater growth unification, less death-incurred loss also feeding mash feed is more economical. When producing mash feed, the material undergoes pre-grinding before mixing and packing. Pelleted feed is the continuation of mash feed. The purpose of pelleting is for easy transport and feeding. The nutrient value in every pellet is the same, so farmed animals will consume all the good nutrients incorporated inside the pellets.

Shrimp feed can be produced by two methods, pelleting or extrusion, depending on the dietary of the shrimp species. Making profitable feed or food cannot be determined by how single machinery performs. Moreover, we need to consider the adequate process flow, local-based formulation design, and plant management that covers quality assurance, equipment operations, and maintenance. Other than chicken feed, duck feed is also a major type of poultry feed. The formulation for duck feed contains a high concentration of fiber and makes the mash very puffy. It is a rule of thumb to know that it is relatively harder to treat any formulation with a high fiber level using massive direct steam. Over-dosed direct steam will eventually create cracks on the surface. The concentration of fiber and pellet quality is equally proportional. However, a high concentration of fiber will lower the efficiency of pelleting capacity. Around one percent of water can be added to the mixer to compensate for any raw material for pre-hydrating. This pre-hydrating by the mixer will help in the pelleting process.

Biofuel pellets or Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF-5) made from biomass waste is becoming common as one of the renewable energy sources. IDAH provides core pieces of equipment and solutions in resource recovery and production of biofuel pellets production. Raw material for biomass pellet: Agricultural waste: crop stalk and straw material, rice husk, cotton stalk, coffee husk, alfalfa straw, coconut shell, palm shell, sugarcane bagasse, etc. Forestry residue: sawmill residue, branches, bark, leaves, etc. Solid waste: junk paper, waste plastic, cardboard, etc. A high-quality biomass pellet would result in a higher calorific value with lower moisture and ash contents.

Wood pellet line is the process of making wood waste into solid fuels which are used for burning purposes. Wood Pellet is generally made from compacted sawdust and related industrial wastes from the milling of lumber, manufacture of wood products and furniture, and construction. With a series of research and development, IDAH has perfected the carousel drying technology in shrimp feed drying. We have delivered more than 40 carousel dryers which are used in aqua feed production. The limitation of the shrimp feed pelleting is the mash moisture during pelleting. Lower pre-conditioned mash moisture (12-13%) will lower cooking in the mash compared to mash with higher moisture (15-16%). Higher cooking in the mash will result in better pellet integrity, pellet density, and water stability in water.

In APAC, pelleted shrimp feed is the preferred process of shrimp feed due to shrimp's slow feeding habit and high palatability as the result of feed smell preservation. During the webinar, IDAH also explained the production critical points, the importance of batch process, cooking of the material by pre-conditioner and post conditioner, and also good packing method.
